Gaza authorities said an Israeli airstrike killed five Palestinian journalists outside a hospital on Thursday. Palestinian doctors say the five people were among at least 21 people killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Palestinian enclave before dawn. For its part, the Israeli army justified it by attacking a vehicle carrying Islamic Jihad militants. Palestinian media and local reporters said the vehicle was marked as a van carrying medical equipment and was used by journalists to report from inside Nuseirat hospital and camp. The journalists worked for Al-Quds TV channel.
Since the Hamas attack, the Israeli military has taken massive action in the Gaza Strip. According to the latest information from the Hamas-controlled health authority in the Palestinian territory, more than 45,360 people have already been killed. This information cannot be independently verified, but the UN considers it reliable.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, more than 130 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the start of the war in Gaza. Israel does not allow foreign journalists into the Gaza Strip, except for occasional press tours of the area organized by the military. Dozens of relatives and fellow journalists attended the funeral of the five journalists, whose bodies were wrapped in white sheets. Blue jackets emblazoned with the word "PRESS" were placed over the shrouded bodies.
Hamas and Israel have blamed each other for their failure to complete a ceasefire agreement despite progress reported by both sides in recent days. Hamas said Israel had set further conditions, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the group of going back on understandings already reached. (A2 Televizion)
