Russia has stepped up drone attacks on Ukraine almost every night in recent weeks. Ukraine's air defenses shot down 110 of the 177 drones launched by Russia in the overnight attack, the air force said.
He said another 66 drones had been "lost" as a result of electronic interference from Ukraine against Russian drones. The Kiev, Kharkiv, Kirovohrad and Sumy regions were targeted in the attacks.
Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, said its power facility in the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region had been damaged, without giving details.
Russia focused its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's electricity sector last year, but in recent months has sharply increased attacks on gas storage facilities and production fields.
The emergency service posted several photos and videos on Telegram of firefighters battling flames overnight in what appeared to be residential buildings and garages in the Bucha district of the Kiev region.
Meanwhile, according to Russian military sources, Ukraine attacked the Russian Black Sea coast with a large number of drones. The Defense Ministry in Moscow announced that 128 drones were intercepted, 83 of them over the coastal Krasnodar region in southern Russia.
