The Israel Defense Forces, IDF, through a statement in the last moments have reacted in response to reports that the troops were approaching the Syrian capital, Damascus.
"There has been fake news going around. IDF forces are not advancing towards Damascus. This is baseless and has no facts," an IDF spokesman said.
"We are not involved. We are not a party to this conflict and have no interest other than protecting our civilians," the statement also said.
The IDF said it had direct lines of communication with the United Nations Observer Force to "understand what they are doing and so they understand what we are doing."
Asked if Israeli troops are operating outside the buffer zone, the spokesman said: "The IDF has been operating in the vicinity of the buffer zone, but [it is] 0% true that they have moved towards Damascus."
He added: "We have no side in the war in Syria. We are not looking for a war with the people who live there." (A2 Televizion)
