Ukrainian forces seize more territory inside Russia, Putin faces domestic

While the momentum on the battlefield over the past year has reportedly been largely on the side of Russian forces, Ukraine has continued to enjoy a number of tactical successes.

According to foreign media, these include cross-border raids inside Russia, with yesterday marking six months since Kiev launched a shock offensive in the Kursk region.

The Institute for the Study of War said Ukrainian forces launched a new series of attacks on Kursk yesterday and advanced up to 5 km (3 miles) behind Russian lines southeast of Sudzha.

He said new footage showed that Ukrainian forces recently advanced southwest of Makhnovka and north and east of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and captured the village of Kolmakov.

"Putin has yet to prioritize the expulsion of Ukrainian forces from the Kursk Region over continuing his gradual advances in the Donetsk region and continues to drag out the liberation of the Kursk border areas, despite domestic discontent," ISW analysts said, writes A2 CNN.

The Russian president told Kursk regional governor Alexander Khinshtein this week that the situation in the region was "very difficult."

"Today it has been exactly two months since we last met here and I instructed you to organize work in the Kursk region," he said, A2 CNN writes.

"The situation there is very difficult. And the most important thing I asked you to pay attention to was to approach the people and identify their concerns and problems. Indeed, there are a lot of problems there," the President told the regional governor in Kursk, A2 CNN writes. (A2 Televizion)
