A former American Airlines flight attendant has been sentenced to 18.5 years in prison for planting a hidden phone in a plane's toilet to record underage girls. The shocking incident occurred in September 2023, when a 14-year-old girl discovered the phone taped to the toilet lid during a flight from Charlotte to Boston, A2 CNN reports.

Estes Carter Thompson III, of North Carolina, was arrested in January 2024 and charged with attempted sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child sexual abuse materials involving a prepubescent minor. He was found guilty and received a sentence of nearly 20 years in federal court in Boston, to be followed by five years of supervised release.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Thompson had enrolled at least five girls, ages 7 to 14, over a nine-month period. Prosecutors said in court documents that the victims were deprived of a sense of safety and trust in the world, leaving them with deep psychological trauma.

Judge Julia Kobick described his behavior as “disgusting” and said that “the innocence of children has been lost because of his actions.” In the courtroom, Thompson apologized, calling his actions “selfish, sick and wrong.”

He is expected to serve his sentence at FMC Butner Prison in North Carolina and, according to his lawyers, intends to pursue specialized treatment for sex crimes. (A2 Televizion)
