The outgoing American president, Joe Biden, has called on the new members of the congress not to rebel against Donald Trump.
"You must tell the truth about the January 6 riots in the Capitol," he underlined, adding the warning that what happened should not be forgotten or repeated.
"Every generation is tested. I taught constitutional law for a long time and I always lectured that every generation should fight for it. I never really believed what I was saying in the sense that I didn't think I would have to fight to preserve democracy. But tomorrow is January 6th. We gather to certify the results of free and fair presidential elections and to ensure a peaceful transfer of power. It's a day that most of our history has taken for granted. But I hope we never take it for granted again.
You know, four years ago, on January 6th, this Capitol was attacked by a violent mob. If you come to the Oval Office before I leave, I'll show you the room where former President Trump sat for three and a half hours watching what was happening on television. And our democracy was really, literally put to the test.
And thankfully, our democracy endured. But the main reason is because of the courage of the Capitol Police and the local people who stood with us… Now it's your job to tell the truth, remember what happened, and not let January 6th be rewritten or erased. To honor the Constitution, not only on the most extraordinary days, but it is one of the most difficult days in American history on January 6," said Biden. (A2 Televizion)
