A senior Hamas official has shared with the BBC a list of the names of 34 hostages the Palestinian group says it is willing to release in the first phase of a possible ceasefire deal with Israel.
According to foreign media, it is unclear how many of them are still alive.
Among them are 10 women and 11 older male hostages aged between 50 and 85, as well as young children whom Hamas previously said were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
A number of hostages that Hamas says are sick are also included in the list, A2 CNN writes.
Reports from the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry say Israeli airstrikes killed more than 100 people there at the weekend.
The Israeli prime minister's office denied reports that Hamas had provided Israel with a list of hostages.
"The list of abductees published in the media was not passed to Israel by Hamas, but was first passed by Israel to mediators in July 2024," the statement says, writes A2 CNN.
"To date, Israel has not received any confirmation or comment from Hamas regarding the status of the abductees on the list," the statement continued.
Hamas's decision to release the names of the hostages will be seen by some as an attempt to increase public pressure on the Israeli government.
Ceasefire negotiations resumed in Doha, Qatar, over the weekend, but talks do not yet appear to have made significant progress.
A Hamas official told the Reuters news agency that any deal on the return of the Israeli hostages would depend on an agreement on Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and a permanent ceasefire or an end to the war. (A2 Televizion)
