British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer spoke after signing a new defence treaty with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
According to foreign media, Starmer said the war in Ukraine was among the topics discussed by the two leaders today.
"We are leading the work to bring the best equipment to Ukraine as quickly as possible, we will continue to push this forward with the US and other allies because ultimately our security begins in Ukraine," he said, writes A2 CNN.
Starmer added that the new deal represents "a partnership with a purpose." Merz told reporters that the treaty addresses "the key challenges of our time."
According to Starmer, Russia was "shaking the European security architecture" since Britain's exit from Europe.
"Under these conditions, we aim to ensure the freedom and prosperity of the peoples of both our countries," he added.
Merz praised the "very important initiative" that Donald Trump took on Monday, when he announced that the US is ready to provide weapons to Ukraine, an action that will be purchased and paid for by European partners.
"Germany wants to make a significant contribution here... we need to have clarity on how the US will replace the weapons systems that the Europeans will transfer to Ukraine," he said, A2 CNN writes.
"All of this will increase the pressure on Putin to finally negotiate peace in Europe and the US," he concluded. (A2 Televizion)
