Germany has raised the alarm over possible Russian attacks not only on its own country, but also on Europe and NATO. Diplomatic circles in the defense alliance in Brussels said that Russian President Vladimir Putin will try to "test NATO" in the coming years. It is unclear whether this will happen in space, cyberspace, at sea or on land, German media quoted A2 CNN as saying.
"He will try to find out at what level of escalation NATO is ready to activate Article 5 and how reliable 'collective deterrence' is still," a European diplomat told Die Welt.
The commander of the Bundeswehr's operational command, Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank, warned of an increase in hostile actions by the Putin regime in Germany.
"We see various forms of hybrid attacks, espionage, sabotage or influence through disinformation," Sollfrank said in an interview with WELT AM SONNTAG. "Even if we currently do not see any concrete preparations for this, it is completely indisputable that we are threatened with war in the classical sense."
The target size for Russia’s armed forces is 1.5 million soldiers. One must ask why the country needs “such a large number,” military experts point out. From statements made by the political leadership, one can conclude that “it would like to turn back time to the situation before the emergence of free states on the periphery or in the Soviet Union, which later became members of the EU or NATO.”
On Thursday and Friday, NATO foreign ministers discussed in Brussels how they can increase their defense spending and confront the Russian threat.
At a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, several NATO countries accused Russia of torpedoing US efforts to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine. Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said Putin's offers of negotiations were nothing more than empty promises. (A2 Televizion)
