Russia has hit the Ukrainian capital with a ballistic missile and dropped cluster bombs on the eastern city of Kharkiv, causing casualties and further undermining efforts to cement a ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev.
Officials in Kiev said one person was killed and at least three others were injured when a ballistic missile hit an industrial area in southern Kiev on the morning of April 6. The attack sparked a fire and damaged a warehouse and other buildings.
The Russian attacks mainly hit districts where businesses and warehouses are located.
In Kupiyansk, a city east of Kharkiv, Russian forces attacked a residential area with glide bombs, causing extensive material damage and injuring two people.
Most of the city, which is close to the front line, has been evacuated as Russian forces approach the city from the north.
Gliding bombs are heavy munitions, dropped from aircraft far from the front lines and guided through command systems. These weapons are difficult to neutralize, and Russian forces, who began their invasion of Ukraine in 2022, have used them to attack Ukrainian defenses along the entire front line.
Overall, Russia fired dozens of missiles at Ukrainian targets and more than 100 drones, authorities said. Half of the missiles and almost half of the drones were shot down, Ukrainian officials claimed.
