Arturo Torró, a businessman and former mayor of Gandia in Spain, was found dead this Thursday in his car, having been shot with a bullet.
He was found around 6 a.m. on the A-38 highway, in the territory of Xeresa. The murder was reported by his wife, whom he had called shortly before the incident. He had contacted her to ask for help after noticing that the car's tires were flat, writes A2 CNN.
Torró had a long career as a politician and businessman in Spain. He had led the municipality of Gandia for a single term from 2011 to 2015, and was replaced by Diana Morant, who is currently the Minister of Science in the Government of Spain. He had also been president of the Popular Party (PP) in Gandia from 2010 to 2016. After leaving as mayor in 2015, he resigned as a councilor and left the leadership of the party in the hands of his colleague, Víctor Soler.
In 2023, Torró was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for embezzlement of public funds in the "Tele 7" case, related to the award of contracts for audiovisual communication services by the municipality of Gandia. (A2 Televizion)
