Italian journalist Cecilia Sala has been released. She was detained in Iran, in Evin prison, since December 19, foreign media write.
Palazzo Chigi reports: "The plane that took the journalist home took off a few minutes ago from Tehran. Thanks to the intensive work in the diplomatic and intelligence channels, our compatriot has been released by the Iranian authorities and is returning to Italy", the press release clarifies, which further states that Sala will land at 15:30 at Ciampino airport, writes A2 CNN .
In the last few hours there has been an unexpected acceleration thanks to the diplomatic work carried out by Italy, also with the cooperation of the United States. Yesterday Cecilia had called home, informing that her conditions of detention had improved: she had received a bed and the two packages delivered by the Embassy had arrived. Then during the night the release and deportation happened. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who was handling the file a week ago, broke the news to Cecilia's parents.
Prime Minister Meloni expressed "gratitude to all those who contributed to make Cecilia's return possible, allowing her to hug her family and colleagues again."
