"We are dependent on the US" - Chancellor Merz: We think differently

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that the US will continue to be dependent on the United States of America in the times to come.

According to foreign media, Merz made the comments after his meeting with President Donald Trump in the US.

He also said that the US also needs partners in the world, one of which, according to him, is Germany.

Merz added that yesterday in the US he took a completely different stance on the Ukraine issue than what President Donald Trump had previously taken.

"Whether we like it or not, we will continue to be dependent on the United States for the times to come. However, I communicated to Donald Trump that you also need a partner in the world, the Europeans are like that and the Germans in particular, are the most stable partners in the world when it comes to common challenges."

This is the difference between democratic and authoritarian systems. Authoritarian systems have subordinates, democracies have partners, and we want to be partners of Europe and the United States. My conclusion from this meeting is perhaps different from the public image.

"This American government is open to discussion, listens and is prepared to accept other opinions. Yesterday in the Oval Office, I took a completely different position on the Ukraine issue than the one Trump had held, and not only was there no objection, but we discussed it again in detail over lunch," Merz said, writes A2 CNN.
