Israel's security cabinet has recommended that the Israeli government "approve the proposed outline" of the ceasefire agreement, according to a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
According to foreign media, this means that the agreement must now be voted on by the government cabinet.
The meeting for that vote is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. local time, according to Israeli media.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said earlier Friday that if the agreement is approved, the ceasefire would begin to be implemented on January 19 of this year, when the first hostages will be released.
The agreement also provides for a halt to fighting in the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
The agreement will also allow hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians to return to their homes in Gaza, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
