Canada defeats the US in hockey, Trudeau "stakes" Trump: You

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau couldn't resist taking a dig at President Donald Trump shortly after the Canadian ice hockey team defeated the United States in a hard-fought final.

"You can't take our place and you can't even beat us at the game," Trudeau wrote on 'X'.

Canada's thrilling 3-2 overtime victory in the 4 Nations Face Off final in Boston took place amid rising tensions between the two neighbors.

Not only is there the threat of a trade war, but there are also Trump's lingering ideas about making Canada the 51st state of the US.

The Canadian national anthem was sung with different lyrics in protest of Trump's statements.

On any normal day, this match would be an important one for the two neighboring countries, who have long been friendly ice hockey rivals, but recent events have added more dynamics.

President Trump was unable to attend the game, but he called the team to wish them luck against Canada.

He also reiterated his desire to adopt Canada, writing in a Truth Social post before the match: "I hope that the country will one day, perhaps soon, become our beloved and very important state, the 51st state . " (A2 Televizion)
