The new aid package for Ukraine will be blocked by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. According to a report by the German media "Der Spiegel", Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius want to give an additional three billion euros for the shipments of weapons needed before the elections.

Therefore, the money must be approved by the budget committee as an over-planned expenditure.

According to the report, this is justified by the military situation, especially the Russian advance in eastern Ukraine. However, the Chancellery had informally signaled that Scholz did not support the project.

According to Spiegel, the Ministry of Defense has already drawn up a list of weapons systems needed, including three additional Iris-T anti-aircraft batteries plus ammunition, additional Patriot missiles, and additional artillery ammunition.

The federal government did not confirm the report, but neither did it deny it. Aid to Ukraine is "a constant theme in the federal government," government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann said. "But these are internal government votes, I don't want to say anything about that," she added.

However, Hoffmann referred to repeated assurances by Scholz that "Germany will continue to provide Ukraine with very extensive support in the future" .

The Ministry of Defense referred to various support projects for Ukraine that have already been funded for 2025. This obviously includes a volume of four billion euros.

This also includes deliveries of wheeled howitzers, "drones in the four-digit range" and guided missiles, a ministry spokesman said. The government is also arranging further deliveries from industry and partner countries. (A2 Televizion)
