Kosovo has the full support of the new American administration led by the newly sworn-in President, Donald Trump. This is confirmed by President Vjosa Osmani, based on personal conversations she has had with the head of the White House, but also with representatives of the Republican party.

"I had the opportunity to personally congratulate President Trump during his visit to Paris. Not only to congratulate him, but also to have a substantive conversation with him regarding the security situation in Kosovo and our region, and the dangers that threaten this region. I expressed full confidence in his leadership to maintain peace and security in Kosovo and beyond.

"I am extremely pleased and very optimistic after that conversation I had with the president. At the same time, for more than a year now, I have continued numerous meetings with representatives of the Republican Party, many of the contacts that I have had before and now, which have now been established for the first time. Based on all these contacts, I say with full confidence that Kosovo has strong support in this administration and in the Republican Party in general," said Osmani.

The president was asked by reporters whether she had received an invitation and explained in detail why she did not attend Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony as president of the United States.

"I was invited to this ceremony by members of Congress and members of the Senate. Since the vast majority of states, as far as state leaders are concerned, are represented by ambassadors. We have also implemented the same protocol model. I have sent a presidential delegation led by the chief of staff and the foreign policy advisor, who, accompanied by Ambassador Ilir Dugolli, have participated in all the inaugural activities. Many of which are still ongoing, including the meetings of the team that I have delegated. As soon as their meetings and visits are completed, we will issue a statement informing the public about all these meetings," Osmani said.

The president was also asked about the harsh tones used during the election campaign, but declined to speak on the subject. Ms. Osmani's comments came after the memorial ceremony on the 19th anniversary of the death of former president Ibrahim Rugova. (A2 Televizion)
