Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the creation of an "army of Europe" to defend against Russia, after he suggested the US may no longer come to the continent's aid. Speaking on the second day of the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky also said Ukraine "would never accept deals made behind our backs without our involvement" after US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to start peace talks, A2 CNN writes.
"Many leaders have spoken about Europe needing its own army - an army of Europe. And I truly believe that the time has come: the armed forces of Europe must be created. Without the Ukrainian army, the armies of Europe will not be enough to stop Russia, this is the reality for today. Only our army in Europe has real modern experience on the battlefield. But our army alone is not enough. And we need what you can provide: weapons, training, sanctions, financing, political pressure and unity," said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.
Zelensky that Ukraine would never accept any peace deal reached behind Kiev's back or without its involvement - an implicit message to US President Donald Trump as he tries to end the war with Russia.
"Ukraine will never accept agreements made behind our backs without our involvement. And the same rule should apply to all of Europe," said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.
Ukraine has repeatedly said it wants to join the United States and Europe in crafting a joint strategy ahead of any Trump-Putin meeting. The Trump administration has so far given the impression among some European allies that it was making concessions to Putin at Ukraine's expense before negotiations begin, though remarks by some senior U.S. officials have raised confusion.
