The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has decided to resign from his post and also as the leader of his party.
Trudeau said his decision came after long discussions with his family, writes A2.
In a press conference he said that "Canada deserves to have a real choice" for the next election.
"It's clear that if I have to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best choice for Canadians," Trudeau said.
Further, Justin Trudeau said that Canada is a better country today than it was when he became prime minister in 2015: “Our government made the economy grow for everyone, not just a few. We reduced poverty and included more people in the country's workforce."
In mid-December, Chrystia Freeland, the prime minister's longtime ally, resigned unexpectedly, increasing pressure on Trudeau's leadership, reports A2.
"I had high hopes that she would continue in her role as finance minister and deputy prime minister, but she decided to step down," Trudeau said. (A2 Televizion)
