Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has been placed under investigation for aiding and abetting the release and repatriation of Libyan commander Almasri, wanted by the International Criminal Court.
According to foreign media, the same notification has also reached Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano and Ministers of Justice Carlo Nordio and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi.
Prime Minister Meloni announced the news with a video on her social networks, writes A2 CNN.
"Public Prosecutor Francesco Lovoi, also involved in Matteo Salvini's failed kidnapping trial, has just sent me an investigation notice for 'crimes of aiding and abetting in connection with the repatriation of citizen Almasri'. An investigation notice, Meloni specifies, also sent to Minister Carlo Nordio, Matteo Piantedosi and Alfredo Mantovano, I believe came after a complaint filed by lawyer Luigi Li Gotti, a very left-wing politician close to Romano Prodi, known for defending criminals of the caliber of Buscetta, Brusca and other mafiosi," Meloni said.
"I think that what was valid yesterday is also valid today: I cannot be blackmailed and I am not afraid, it is possible that for this reason I am not liked by those who do not want Italy to change. But also and above all for this I intend to continue my path in defense of Italians, especially when the security of the nation is at stake," Meloni continued. (A2 Televizion)
