The Ukrainian government has dismissed a deputy defense minister in charge of arms purchases amid internal conflicts over procurement.
According to foreign media, a dispute flared last week after Defense Minister Rustem Umerov criticized Ukraine's efforts to purchase weapons as failed, which yielded results for frontline troops.
He then fired Dmytro Klimenkov, citing "unsatisfactory" results, and said he would not renew the contract with Maryna Bezrukova, the head of the agency that coordinates arms purchases for Kiev's military.
The agency was created after a series of allegations earlier in the Ministry's fight against improper spending and aimed to eliminate middlemen and minimize the risk of corruption, writes A2 CNN.
In a statement on Friday, Umerov said the agency had "inexplicably transformed into an 'Amazon' and its purchases were very publicly visible."
The agency said in response that it had made "significant progress" in increasing supply and lowering prices and that it would continue to work under Bezrukova. (A2 Televizion)
