Scenario reversal in Dublin: The perpetrator of the attack turns out to be Irish, the hero who neutralized the attacker, an immigrant from Brazil

Irish people set fire to Dublin yesterday after a knife attack in an area populated by refugees. And yet, it appears that the attack was carried out by a local.

After the knife attack, as a result of which three children and a 30-year-old woman were injured outside a school, citizens took to the streets and set fire to vehicles on the street and vandalized several businesses. But later, the police announced that the attack was carried out by a 40-year-old Irish man, and not the Algerian as thought. 

While, according to the Irish network TheJournal.ie, the "hero" who brought down the attacker is a 43-year-old immigrant from Brazil, who was passing by on his motorcycle when he saw a minor being attacked with a knife by a man and hit the perpetrator with his helmet .

"I didn't even think about it, it was pure instinct and it was all over in seconds. He fell to the ground," said Caio Benicio.

"I have two children myself, so I had to do something. I did what anyone would do. People were there but they couldn't intervene because he was armed, but I knew I could use my helmet as a weapon."

Benicio said he was now praying for the five-year-old girl he saw attacked. He also told TheJournal.ie he was saddened to see anti-immigrant rioters on the streets.

"They seem to hate immigrants. Well, I'm an immigrant and I did everything I could to save this little girl."

The situation in the city calmed down in the early hours of this morning, while there are still officers patrolling the streets in the Irish capital.
