Russia-Ukraine war, Lavrov: US must take first step to restore dialogue

We have reported on Sergei Lavrov's comments as he spoke to the media this morning, writes A2 CNN.

The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, spoke today in a statement to the media, regarding the developments of the war in Ukraine.

According to foreign media, after telling the press that a ceasefire with Ukraine would lead to "nowhere", he said the US must make the first move if it is serious about trying to improve relations.

President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20, has talked about his ability to strike a deal and has repeatedly asserted that he can end the war in Ukraine quickly, though he has not said how.

Even Russia's foreign minister has appeared to suggest that Moscow would at least be willing to listen.

"If the signals coming from the new team in Washington to restore the dialogue that Washington interrupted after the start of a special military operation [the war launched by Russia in Ukraine], are serious, of course, we will respond to them," Mr. Lavrov said.

"But the Americans stopped the dialogue, so they have to take the first step," he added, writes A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
