At least 37 people have died and many others have been injured as a result of a stampede by a crowd in Congo during an event organized by the army to recruit young cadets.
Dozens of people tried to force their way through the gates of the stadium in the capital, causing chaos, which in a few minutes got out of control.
Last week, the army announced plans to recruit around 1,500 young soldiers between the ages of 18 and 25, and with unemployment in Congo so high, this is seen as a good opportunity for many.
The details of what exactly happened at the Michel d'Ornano stadium are unclear, as thousands of young people are reported to have gathered outside the stadium since Monday, for the registration process that was due to start the following day. (A2 Televizion)
