Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Hamas on Friday to accept the Gaza ceasefire deal proposed by US special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, "or they will be destroyed," A2 CNN reports.
The proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire, the release of 10 live Israeli hostages and 18 bodies in two phases, in exchange for Israel's release of 1,236 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, as well as the bodies of 180 Palestinians.
Katz said the Israeli military is continuing operations in Gaza with full force, carrying out air, ground and sea strikes on an unprecedented scale, A2 CNN reports. He added that after "eliminating the terrorists and clearing the area," the Israeli military will remain to maintain control of the area, in order to achieve the country's objectives of freeing the hostages and defeating Hamas.
Hamas criticized the proposal, saying it falls short of essential demands, including a complete cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of Israeli troops. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with the United Nations warning of the risk of widespread famine and a lack of sufficient humanitarian aid. (A2 Televizion)
