Israel said it had received a list of four female hostages that Hamas had agreed to release on Saturday. The hostage swap is considered the second round of releases under a ceasefire deal agreed this month.
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said the list was obtained through intermediaries and added that Israel's response would be given later. The first three hostages, Emily Damari, 28, Romi Gonen, 24, and Doron Steinbrecher, 31, were released on Sunday. At the same time, 90 Palestinian prisoners were released by Israel.
The release of the second group of Palestinian hostages and Israeli prisoners is part of the first phase of a ceasefire agreement that is expected to last another five weeks. Under the terms, 26 more Israeli hostages and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners are to be released during that time.
Hamas and its allies are still holding 91 people captured by Israel as of October 7, 2023. There are three other hostages who have been held captive since 2014 and are still in Gaza. In total, 251 people were captured by Israel as of October 7, 2023.
Under the terms of the agreement, Israeli troops will withdraw from some parts of Gaza and the amount of humanitarian aid flowing into Gaza will be increased.
More than 47,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in Israel's offensive.
Since the ceasefire, the Islamists have once again demonstrated their strength in the Gaza Strip and have appeared publicly with military equipment. Independent experts assume that the militia still has many fighters. This raises many questions about the efficiency of Israel's war in Gaza. (A2 Televizion)
