Ukraine has woken up to a wave of powerful Russian attacks which hit neighborhoods across the Ukrainian capital Kiev early Tuesday, killing 55 people.

More than 40 people have been transported to medical facilities in the city, A2 writes.

"There is still no exact information about the injured, while rescue teams are working on the ground," said Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitchko in a video posted on Telegram.

"In the Solomyansky district, in particular, the rubble of a residential building is being cleared, where the entire entrance collapsed. Earlier, according to rescue teams and police, 14 people died. The headquarters has been set up on the outskirts to help all those affected by the massive enemy attack on the capital," he added.

The Russian attack hit 27 locations around the capital, damaging residential buildings, educational institutions and critical infrastructure facilities, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.

"Today, the enemy spared neither drones nor missiles," he said of what he called one of the largest attacks on the city since Russia launched a full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Other parts of the country were also hit, including a region outside the capital where one person was injured and the southern region of Odessa, where 13 people were injured, according to local authorities.
Klymenko said a ballistic missile hit a nine-story residential building in the Kiev neighborhood, destroying part of it. He said emergency services were rushing to search the rubble for any possible survivors.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a 62-year-old American citizen had died in an apartment opposite a site where medics were providing aid during the attack. Klymenko said the man died from gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Russian air defense units intercepted and destroyed 147 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory, including the Moscow region, overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday. (A2 Televizion)
