US President Donald Trump has condemned Russia's renewed massive attacks and announced new sanctions against Moscow.

On Tuesday, Trump had given Moscow a ten-day deadline to end the war in Ukraine, threatening sanctions if it did not do so, A2 writes.

The Kremlin remained unsatisfied and continued to attack Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities report at least 26 dead after Russian airstrikes in Kiev on Thursday. Three children were among the dead, the ministry said Friday morning. The death toll was revised upward after “rescuers pulled ten bodies from the rubble of a residential building in the Sviatoshynsky district, including the body of a 2-year-old child,” the ministry said in a Telegram message.

159 people were injured, including 14 children.

"I think it's disgusting what they're doing. I think it's disgusting. This is Biden's war. It's not my war. But I said, if I go in, I'll try to stop this. But I think what Russia is doing is very sad. A lot of Russians are dying. Yes, we're going to put sanctions in place. I don't know if sanctions bother Russia. You know, they know about sanctions. I know better than anyone about sanctions, tariffs and everything else. I don't know if this has any effect, but we're going to do it. Europe is extremely upset, but this is a war that should never have happened," Trump said.

Russia has fired a total of 309 drones and eight cruise missiles into Ukraine since Wednesday evening, the Ukrainian Air Force reported. 288 drones and three cruise missiles were intercepted. US special envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Russia after his visit to Israel, according to President Donald Trump.

Trump did not provide details about Witkoff's planned trip. During previous visits to Moscow, Witkoff had met, among others, with President Vladimir Putin.

Trump recently shortened his ultimatum to Kremlin leader Putin from 50 to 10 days, during which a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which has been under attack by Moscow, was to be reached. The shortened deadline began on Tuesday, after which Trump intends to impose sanctions on Russia's trading partners. These would affect, among others, India and China, buyers of Russian oil.
