German media: Russian spy plane enters NATO airspace

This morning a Russian spy plane entered NATO airspace in the Baltics.

The news was announced by the German newspaper "Bild", which reported that two German fighter jets intercepted and escorted the Russian plane.

The French General Staff reported that Russia had attacked a French patrol aircraft during a surveillance mission over the Baltic Sea, writes A2 CNN.

According to a social media post from the French Armed Forces Joint Headquarters, a Breguet 1150 Atlantic patrol aircraft was monitoring underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea when the Russian military targeted the aircraft.

Illuminated by Russian fire control, the report indicated that the Breguet 1150 was attacked with a fire control radar, which, according to the French General Staff, probably came from a naval unit.

The Ukrainian military news website Militaryni explained that the naval unit could have been a naval vessel. The General Staff of the French Armed Forces described the incident as an “aggressive and unjustified attempt to impede freedom of navigation in international airspace,” but noted that the fire control objectives did not escalate further.

United24 reported that the incident occurred over international waters and that the type of radar detection "typically precedes a potential deployment and raises concerns about an escalation of tensions in the region." (A2 Televizion)
