Hamas has agreed to a proposal by US special envoy Steve Witkoff for a ceasefire in Gaza, paving the way for a possible end to the war, a Palestinian official close to the group told Reuters.
The new proposal, which provides for the release of ten hostages and a 70-day ceasefire, was accepted by Hamas through mediators.
"The proposal includes the release of ten live Israeli hostages held by Hamas in two groups in exchange for a 70-day ceasefire and a partial withdrawal from the Gaza Strip ," the source told Reuters, citing A2 CNN.
The proposal also calls for the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners from Israel, including hundreds of those serving long prison sentences. There was no immediate comment from Israel.
Earlier, the Israeli army announced that it had launched an "unprecedented" military operation against the capabilities of armed groups that continue to fire rockets at Israel from the Khan Younis area in the southern Gaza Strip. The IDF ordered the immediate evacuation of residents from the Al-Qarara, Bani Suheila and Abasan neighborhoods to the Al-Mawasi area, to the west.
According to the announcement, the area is considered dangerous and multiple warnings have been issued in the past. Nasser and Al-Amal hospitals were exempted from the evacuation order. (A2 Televizion)
