A 70-year-old woman from central Israel was arrested today on charges of attempting to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by making and using an improvised explosive device.
Israeli police described the woman as a “known anti-government protester” and said she had contacted other protesters seeking ways to obtain weapons and had also raised questions about the prime minister’s security.
According to The Jerusalem Post, her personal information and the location of her home were initially placed under a court-ordered gag order. However, at the request of investigative authorities, part of the order was lifted, allowing the charges against her to be revealed.
Her arrest was carried out by the Shin Bet ( Israel’s Internal Security Agency ), and the investigation was assigned to the National Intelligence Service’s Lahav 433 Serious and International Crimes Unit, based in Lod. After the procedure was completed on Wednesday afternoon, authorities handed over the material to the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary for criminal prosecution.
State-run KAN reported that the arrested woman had been detained two weeks ago but was later released with restrictive conditions, including a ban on entering government buildings and an obligation not to approach the prime minister. (A2 Televizion)
