The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it will investigate the incident. The flight, a Boeing 737-800, was departing from Colorado Springs to Dallas but diverted to Denver due to an unspecified engine vibration and the engine itself reportedly caught fire, A2 CNN reports.

Footage of the evacuation showed passengers huddled on the wing of the Boeing plane, some carrying bags, with flames burning near the rear of the plane.

American Airlines said the plane had 172 passengers on board, along with six crew members. All were safely evacuated, the company said.
