Michael Clarke: Why I'm Sure Russia Won't Launch Nuclear Weapons on

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov previously told Sky News' Ivor Bennett in Moscow that "all options" are on the table when it comes to a response to Ukraine's recent attacks.

According to foreign media, security and defense analyst Michael Clarke said that one option that we can almost certainly rule out is for Russia to use nuclear weapons.

Clarke made the comments in his weekly Q&A on the war in Ukraine this afternoon, A2 CNN writes.

"The Russians have shown no sign, no physical sign, of advancing their tactical nuclear weapons or bringing any of the preparations together," Clarke said.

Clarke further explained that Russia uses nuclear rhetoric to scare everyone, but there is no real advantage it can gain by using tactical nuclear weapons.

"They would have to use five or six Hiroshima-sized bombs to destroy a Ukrainian brigade, scattered as they usually are," he said.

"So they would have to engage in a nuclear war on a large scale and only then would that destroy a Ukrainian brigade," he continued.

Alternatively, they would have to drop two or three nuclear weapons on a city.

"Putin would lose his most important supporters and backers if he broke this taboo," Clarke said.

This includes India and China, because "it would have very bad consequences for the rest of the global south."

"Putin wants to go down in history as a great Russian leader. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to go down in history as the man who broke the taboo, the first man to use nuclear weapons in an aggressive way [since World War II]," Clarke added. (A2 Televizion)
