German Defense Minister: US demand for 5% GDP defense spending increase is

Defense ministers have been asked about defense spending, after the US demanded that the UK and its NATO allies spend 5% of GDP on defense "starting now".

According to foreign media, Germany's Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, called this action "truly unrealistic."

"What we are talking about is increasing the percentage in the coming years. This is possible and certainly necessary," he says, writes A2 CNN.

"We will discuss this topic at the summit, but it is not about disappointing anyone, but about negotiating what is necessary and what is possible," he added.

Meanwhile, UK Defense Secretary John Healey said this is something that will be discussed at the upcoming NATO summit.

"The commitments we make are valued as capabilities for this coalition," he said, writes A2 CNN.

"We are the only nation with a nuclear deterrent that fully commits it to the NATO alliance.

"Yesterday I confirmed that we will double the amount of investment in this Parliament in drone and autonomy technology that will transform our forces, making our commitment to NATO stronger," Healey continued.

Rustem Umerov said it is something Kiev would consider if invited to the summit.
