Across Poland, thousands of people took to the streets against migrants, organized by the right-wing populist party Konfederacja. This party polarizes with radical slogans and is gaining more and more influence.
Thousands of people gathered in Warsaw and 80 other Polish cities on Saturday to protest against the reception of migrants. The demonstration was organized by the right-wing populist party and, in part, the far-right parliamentary party Konfederacja, which has been known for years for its anti-migrant, anti-European and homophobic rhetoric.
Protesters chanted slogans such as “No to migration!” and “No to the invasion by immigrants!” Banners carried messages such as “Here is Poland” and “Poland for Poles.” In some cities, participants also displayed anti-Muslim symbols, and some anti-Semitic symbols were also seen.
Counter-demonstrations also took place in larger cities, some under the slogan "Stop fascism!" Police told the PAP news agency that most of the demonstrations were peaceful. However, in Warsaw, an incident occurred when far-right hooligans from the Legia Warsaw football club attacked a group of counter-demonstrators. According to the online portal of public broadcaster TVP Info, police intervened.
However, television footage also showed an elderly woman known to be an anti-fascist activist being arrested. She was said to have come too close to the demonstration.
The rising confederation
The Confederation Party is represented in both the Polish parliament, the Sejm, and the European Parliament. Its candidate came in third place in the 2025 presidential election. With harsh rhetoric against foreigners, minorities, and the European Union, it is gaining increasing support.
