Bad weather has been affecting central Italy since yesterday evening. The storm that hit the island of Elba on Thursday evening, causing landslides and flooding, has also spread to the rest of Tuscany and in particular to the Maremma Grossetana. The storms have hit the provinces of Lucca, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Florence.

In Rome, there were numerous interventions by local police in 50 different areas, due to damage and inconvenience caused by the bad weather. On Via Ardeatina a large tree fell, blocking half the lane towards the center, causing traffic to stop. A flooded underpass forced traffic police to block traffic on the Appian Way.

Several roads were closed overnight due to landslides and flooding. In Manciano (Grosseto) almost 40 millimeters of rain fell in half an hour, causing several small streams to overflow and flooding roads. A woman trapped in her car was rescued in Orbetello.

In the Municipality of Orbetello, in Albinia, an agricultural area of ​​about 400 hectares is flooded: in less than four hours during the night, 133 millimeters of rain fell in an area already penalized by previous rainfall: a total of over 210 millimeters in 24 hours.

After heavy rains on the island of Elba, around 80 people were evacuated from their destroyed homes and cars. Many underground and ground-floor rooms were flooded, where rescue teams intervened to carry out drainage operations. Divers and rescuers arrived from Livorno for the necessary restoration work. In Portoferraio, firefighters rescued several people trapped in their homes. A school was also evacuated.
