The North Atlantic Alliance has raised the alarm that the world will face several regional wars. This fact was made known by NATO High Admiral Rob Bauer. In a statement for the prestigious "Financial Times", Bauer emphasized that a rebalancing of power between China and the United States or even Russia is needed.
"If the tectonic plates shift, you will have earthquakes. If the geopolitical power plates shift, you will have wars," he said, according to A2.
"I don't think there will be world wars per se, but regional wars, as we see them now, are probably part of our near future," added Admiral Bauer.
The Dutch admiral's plea comes as European governments try to increase their military procurement and production to continue arming Ukraine, and just weeks before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, who has called for Europe to rely less on the US for her safety, writes A2.
According to Bauer, Western rating agencies, banks and pension funds are being too naive in avoiding defense investments. Bauer said a failure by investors to understand their role in "collective protection" meant they risked losing significant government funding in the wake of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
So, it is known that according to information from the French army, dozens of Ukrainian soldiers deserted during their training in France. "There have been a number of desertions, but these are very small considering the number of people trained," a French army official said.
Desertion is not punished in France.
"If someone deserts, a French prosecutor does not have the authority to arrest that person," said the French army official, German media "Die Welt" quoted.
The French army has trained 2,300 soldiers in a brigade called "Kiev's side" on French territory. Anna Yaroslavna or Anna of Kiev was Queen of France from 1051 to 1060 as the second wife of Henry I of France. The other 2,200 soldiers of the brigade were trained in Ukraine. The commander of Ukraine's ground forces, Mykhailo Drapatyj, spoke to several media on Monday about "problems" with the army unit. (A2 Televizion)
