"We may have killed the Hamas leader" - Netanyahu: All of Gaza will

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel may have killed Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar.

According to foreign media, Netanyahu made the comments during a press conference, where he said that if there is a possibility for a temporary ceasefire and a hostage exchange agreement, Israel would be open to it.

But he says: "The entire Gaza Strip will be under Israeli security control," writes A2 CNN.

An Israeli airstrike on a hospital in southern Gaza targeted Sinwar earlier this month, but his death had not been confirmed by either Israel or Hamas.

Referring to the conflict in the territory, Netanyahu also said that "ultimately all parts of Gaza will be under Israeli control," writes A2 CNN.

He cited Israel's previous attacks against the Houthis, Hezbollah and Iran.

Netanyahu says he hopes a deal with the US will stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power.

"The State of Israel retains the right to defend itself against a regime that seeks to eliminate it," he further said.

Netanyahu also criticized opposition leader Yair Golan for saying Israel was killing babies "for a hobby" in Gaza.

The Israeli prime minister said that "while our heroes, our soldiers, are risking their lives to defend Israel," Golan accuses them of "war crimes."

Golan had previously told Reshet Bet radio: “A mentally healthy country does not engage in fighting against civilians, does not kill babies for a hobby, and does not set itself the goal of expelling a population.”

The opposition leader's comments were a rare criticism from within Israel of its conduct in Gaza during the war. (A2 Televizion)
