Members of the social democratic party SPD voted in favor of the coalition agreement with the CDU/CSU: A clear 84.6 percent of members voted for the future government consisting of the CDU/CSU and the SPD.
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil will be Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance in the new federal government. The SPD Presidium voted unanimously in favor of this.
Now the way is clear for the next chancellor, Friedrich Merz. Klingbeil is expected to lead the Social Democrats' government team and will present the personnel list for the next coalition by Monday. The SPD suffered significant losses in the federal elections and will be represented by seven ministers in the next government.
By accepting the coalition agreement with the CDU and CSU, SPD members paved the way for a new government between the CDU/CSU and the SPD under the leadership of incoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Merz's election and the cabinet's swearing-in in the Bundestag are scheduled for next Tuesday. (A2 Televizion)
