The British military, along with the US, has launched air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, marking the UK's first involvement in America's intensified new campaign against the Iran-backed group.
The UK Ministry of Defence described the site attacked as "a cluster of buildings used by the Houthis to produce drones of the type used to attack ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, located about 25 kilometres south of Sana'a".
Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4 aircraft took part in the attacks, dropping Paveway IV guided bombs.
"The attack was carried out after sunset, when the likelihood of civilians in the area had further diminished," the ministry stressed.
"This action has been taken in response to the Houthis' continued threat to freedom of navigation," said John Healey, the UK's defence secretary.
"The 55% drop in maritime traffic across the Red Sea has already cost billions, fuelling regional instability and putting the economic security of UK families at risk." (A2 Televizion)
