Norway unveils 400kg missile that "terrifies" enemies

Norway has officially unveiled the advanced Joint Strike Missile (JSM), developed in collaboration between the Norwegian company Kongsberg and the United States. It is a cruise missile with a range of over 500 km, designed for fifth-generation aircraft such as the F-35A, which is already part of the Norwegian Air Force.

The JSM missile has high strike capabilities, is invisible to radar, navigates with GPS and inertial systems (INS), and uses an infrared camera, being able to identify and strike targets such as warships, radar systems, and command centers, even in conditions of strong air opposition.

Norway is the first country to deploy the missile on its F-35A fleet, which is already based at Ørland Air Base. The news was announced by Forsvarsmateriel, the Norwegian military equipment agency.

According to Brigadier General Jarle Nergård, this weapon represents a major advantage on the battlefield: “Once, this capability belonged only to great powers. Today, Norway is able to strike strategic targets without the help of allies.”

The JSM missile flies at very low altitudes, has high mobility in the final phase of the attack, and is built to operate even without GPS support, using automatic target recognition. (A2 Televizion)
