Another fatal incident occurred near a distribution center in southern Gaza. The Israeli military said it opened fire near an aid distribution facility after identifying "several suspects" and was investigating reports of casualties. The Hamas-run health ministry said Israeli troops killed 24 people waiting for aid near a distribution site in Rafah. The Hamas-run civil defense agency said Israeli forces opened fire with tanks and drones on thousands of Palestinians waiting to gain access to the aid center.
Civil Defense Agency spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told me that most of the dead and wounded at the Rafah aid distribution center were hit by gunfire from tanks, helicopters, and quadcopter drones.
The Israeli military has issued a statement saying its troops opened fire after identifying “suspects” about 0.5km from an aid distribution site. It said its forces initially opened “warning fire”, adding that “after the suspects failed to retreat, further shots were fired at several individual suspects who advanced towards the troops”. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was aware of reports of casualties and “the details of the incident are being reviewed”.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said three of its soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip, in what is believed to be the most serious attack on its forces since Israel ended a ceasefire with Hamas in March.
