One of the most wanted criminals, who once faked his own death, has been killed in Mexico, in a murder believed to have been an assassination carried out by a rival gang.
Marco Ebben, a 32-year-old convicted drug trafficker who once topped Europol's "most wanted criminals" list, was shot dead this week on the outskirts of Mexico City.
In a photo published by Mexican media, Ebben, a Dutchman who had long been linked to international drug trafficking, is shown lying between two cars in a parking lot at a luxury residential complex in Atizapán de Zaragoza, writes A2 CNN.
While details of his death have not yet been officially released, it is believed he was killed by a rival gang. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison in 2020 for trafficking 400 kg of cocaine via containers filled with pineapples during 2014-2015. After his sentence, he left Europe and went into hiding, fleeing to Mexico, where he is believed to have been living under an assumed name since 2023. He had close ties to the notorious Sinaloa cartel.
His attempt to escape punishment by faking his own death in October 2024 in Culiacán was discovered by authorities, making him one of Europe's and the world's most wanted criminals. His murder has raised serious concerns about the influence of organized crime groups in the region. (A2 Televizion)
