"We're sending the Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan," Trump

The United States will take control of the Gaza Strip as part of President Donald Trump's plan to bring peace to the Middle East, which he unveiled after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

The American leader did not rule out the possibility of sending the army to the Palestinian enclave to guarantee US control.

"The United States will take control of the Gaza Strip and we will also build it up. We will own that land and be responsible for dismantling all the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons in that place, we will level the place and get rid of the destroyed buildings. Level it and create an economic development that will provide an unlimited number of jobs and housing for the people of the area," Trump said.

Trump proposed that Palestinians be relocated away from Gaza and announced the construction of several housing areas for them in Egypt and Jordan.

“I also believe very strongly that the Gaza Strip, which has been a symbol of death and destruction for so many decades and a terrible place for people everywhere around it, and especially those who live there, has been very unfortunate indeed. Life in Gaza has simply not been good and it should not go through a process of reconstruction and occupation by the same people who have stood and fought for it, lived there and died. They have lived a miserable life there.

"Instead, we should go to other countries with humanitarian interests, and there are many of them who want to do that and build different areas that will eventually be inhabited by the 1.8 million Palestinians who live in Gaza," Trump said.

Netanyahu says Trump's plan is an idea "worth considering." The US president added that the only reason Palestinians want to go to Gaza is because they have no other alternative, and signaled a reconstruction plan that would transform the enclave into the Riviera of the Middle East.

"I don't want it to be something cool. I don't want to be clever, but the Riviera of the Middle East, that would be something very grand."
