Panama denies US, Trump sends first migrants to Guantanamo prison

The first group of clandestine immigrants, considered high-risk by US authorities, have arrived at the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison, the United States Department of Defense has confirmed.

"The Immigration Agency is implementing this measure to ensure the safe detention of these individuals, pending their transfer to their countries of origin or another appropriate destination," reads a statement distributed by the Department, specifying that it is a temporary measure. The published images show the handcuffed immigrants as they board a military aircraft, writes A2 CNN.

The administration of US President Donald Trump aims to transfer tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, considered high-risk, to a naval base in Cuba, which has been converted into a prison.

Earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reached an agreement with the leader of El Salvador to transfer illegal immigrants, as well as prisoners. The State Department announced another agreement, this time with Panama, to eliminate all fees for American ships to pass through the Panama Canal. However, things do not seem to be that way. Panama has reacted by denying the changes in question to allow US government ships to pass through the Canal free of charge. (A2 Televizion)
