Panic in Italy, baby kidnapped from maternity ward, found hours later

The kidnapping of a one-day-old baby in Cosenza, Italy, has raised eyebrows among authorities, but fortunately the incident was solved after a few hours.

The newborn was found by the police, who arrested two people, a man and a woman, who had taken the little girl to the "Sacred Heart" clinic in the city center.

The abduction reportedly occurred at around 6:30 p.m. The little girl was in a room at the clinic with her mother, a housewife around 27 years old, and her mother-in-law.

According to the reconstruction made by the police investigating the kidnapping, a short woman entered the room, her face partially covered by a mask and her hair tied in braids. She introduced herself as a childcare worker and said she needed to take the child to the pediatrician.

Then she took the little girl and left. The little girl's mother and grandmother, not seeing her return, soon became alarmed and sought information.

Roadblocks were set up at the city's exits, with the belief that the couple had left by car. A tension that lasted until a patrol stopped the car with the kidnappers and the little girl on board, thus marking the end of what was turning into a nightmare.

Authorities have meanwhile launched an investigation to uncover the motives for this kidnapping, as the baby's parents were two simple workers. (A2 Televizion)
