Trump reacts to French plan to recognize Palestine: What Macron says

"What Macron says doesn't matter, it doesn't carry any weight." This is what US President Donald Trump said, commenting on the French president's decision to recognize the state of Palestine. But "he's a good guy," the White House chief of staff added.

Secretary of State Rubio had previously rejected the proposal, explaining that "the United States firmly rejects Macron's plan."

This proposal did not find support even from Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani: "Italy supports the two-people, two-state solution, but the recognition of the new Palestinian state must occur simultaneously with the recognition of the State of Israel," he explained.

Germany also played down the proposal: "The German federal government has no intention of recognizing a Palestinian state in the short term," government spokesman Stefan Kornelius declared.

"Russia has always supported" the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine to end the conflict in the Middle East, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented.

A "humanitarian catastrophe" is unfolding in the Gaza Strip that "must end immediately," the UK, France and Germany said at the end of a phone call between leaders Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz. The appeal appears to be an indirect response to the Israeli government's claims that there is no famine in Gaza, despite warnings from the UN and many international organisations. (A2 Televizion)
