This proposal did not find support even from Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani: "Italy supports the two-people, two-state solution, but the recognition of the new Palestinian state must occur simultaneously with the recognition of the State of Israel," he explained.
Germany also played down the proposal: "The German federal government has no intention of recognizing a Palestinian state in the short term," government spokesman Stefan Kornelius declared.
"Russia has always supported" the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine to end the conflict in the Middle East, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented.
A "humanitarian catastrophe" is unfolding in the Gaza Strip that "must end immediately," the UK, France and Germany said at the end of a phone call between leaders Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz.
