Ukraine's air defense, Zelensky seeking funding for 10 Patriot systems

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country is working to secure funding for 10 Patriot air defense systems, after reaching a deal that allows European countries to buy US weapons and deliver them to Kiev as it defends itself from Russian invasion.

"The President of the United States will transfer these systems to us, sell them. Our task is to find financing for the 10 systems," Zelensky said in comments published on Friday.

He added that Ukraine has already found funding for three systems – two from Germany and one from Norway.

US President Donald Trump has been critical of the approach of the previous Joe Biden administration to provide billions of dollars in aid to Kiev, and has approved the sale of weapons to Ukraine through NATO member countries.

Zelensky said Washington and Kiev have agreed on a deal worth $10-30 billion for Ukraine to sell drones to the United States.

"We have agreed with America and President Trump that they will buy drones from us. This agreement is in force," Zelensky said, among other things.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia by hitting the country's economy with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ REL (A2 Televizion)
