US plan for attacks in Yemen, Hegseth: These are just media lies

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has dismissed all allegations by US media outlets about leaks of information about a secret plan to attack Houthi targets in Yemen. Hegseh criticized the media for trying to spread fake news and said that the Pentagon has now returned to the hands of the fighters.

“What a big surprise that a bunch, a few whistleblowers, get fired and suddenly a bunch of lies come out of the same media that spread the Russia hoax. That’s not going to get them back the Pulitzer Prizes. They got the Pulitzer for a bunch of lies. Pulitzer for a bunch of lies, over and over again. And while they’re spouting those lies, nobody criticizes them. That’s what the media does.

"They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees, and then they try to harm people and ruin their reputations. That's not going to work with me. That's because we're changing the State Department, putting the Pentagon in the hands of the warlords."

Asked if he had spoken to President Donald Trump, Hegseth indicated that he had Trump's support. The same support was also confirmed by the White House, where in a statement from Trump's spokeswoman, the President expressed his absolute support for Pete Hegseth.

The Signal messaging scandal, in which Pete Hegseth communicated with people very close to him about the Yemen strike, also included his wife and his personal lawyer.

Hegseth's wife, Jennifer, is a former Fox News producer and does not hold any official position within the Pentagon. Hegseth has previously been criticized for involving his wife in meetings with foreign leaders. The existence of the second Signal group is the latest controversy surrounding the head of the Pentagon, which this year is overseeing a budget of $892 billion (£670 billion). (A2 Televizion)
