Planning all security steps by Europe together with Turkey would be in the interest of both sides, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during an online meeting organized by the EU, held at the Vahdettin Mansion in Istanbul.
Erdogan stressed the importance of resuming negotiations for his country's full membership in the European Union, noting the need for a fair and comprehensive approach.
"We expect the EU to show a strategic vision and revive our membership negotiations," Erdogan declared.
He criticized Turkey's exclusion from EU programs for defense supplies and reconstruction projects in Ukraine. He stressed the necessity of Turkey's inclusion in mechanisms such as the European Peace Fund, which aims to rebuild Ukraine after the war.
"We believe that there is no justification for excluding us from EU defense product procurement or reconstruction programs," Erdogan said in his speech.
Regarding the war between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish president underlined the importance of diplomacy to achieve a just and lasting peace. He called for an immediate ceasefire and cessation of air and naval attacks as a step towards building trust between the parties.
